A dry orgasm is where there is no discharge of semen from the penis. There are many causes but normally not a medical condition. However, it can create issues with male fertility. Some of the causes of a dry orgasm are retrograde ejaculating which is when semen goes back into the bladder instead of through the penis. Some of the cause of retrograde ejaculation includes diabetes, injury to the prostate, surgery of the prostate area, medications for enlarged prostate, removal of the prostate, removal of the bladder, radiation therapy in the pelvic area.
If there is a concern about dry orgasms or if you have pain with the dry, orgasms consult an urologist for an exam. There may be treatment available for the underlying cause of the dry orgasms. If the dry orgasm is due to retrograde ejaculation thus creating a male infertility problem it may be possible to get the sperm from the urine after an orgasm to be used for artificial insemination.
In addition, there can be other causes for male infertility besides retrograde ejaculation. There could be an impaired production of the sperm, there may be an issue with the function of the sperm, low sperm count, undecided testicle, testosterone deficiency, infections.
Infections such as sexually transmitted diseases, mumps, viral infections, and bacterial infections can limit the strength and mobility of sperm. Repeated occurrences of sexually transmitted diseases such as Chlamydia and gonorrhea often are the cause of male infertility. These types of infection create scarring and can block sperm passage. If there was an occurrence of the mumps, which is a viral infection that is contracted after puberty the testicles become inflamed which impairs sperm production. In addition, an inflamed prostate, urethra or epididymis also alters sperm motility.
There can also be psychological and physical issues such as malnutrition, obesity, alcohol, drugs, smoking, cancer and emotional stress that often will impede sperm production and the strength of the sperm that is produced.
