If you have noticed a swelling in the scrotum, pain in one testicle, experience pain upon ejaculation during intercourse or masturbation and have had painful urination, you may be suffering from Epididymitis.  Epididymitis is a condition in which the epididymis, which is a tube carrying sperm located behind the testicle, gets inflamed.  There are many reasons why men suffer from this condition and it can easily be treated by a physician.

Epididymitis is more common in younger men and usually occurs in men in their twenties and early thirties.  The most common cause of this inflammation is a sexually transmitted disease, such as Chlamydia or gonorrhea, or a bacterial infection.  Men who engage in anal sex are more prone to developing epididymitis because of the presence of bacteria in the anus.

Other causes of this syndrome include certain heart medications and tuberculosis, although these are much less common.  There is also a condition where urine gets into the epididymis and causes epididymitis due to heavy lifting, however this is usually temporary and not very common.

Only your physician can diagnosis epididymitis. The condition is quite common in younger men, particularly those who engage in sex with multiple partners or practice anal sex.  Your physician can prescribe antibiotics to treat the infection and it will clear up in a week, alleviating the painful symptoms.

If you find that the reason behind your epididymitis is a sexually transmitted disease, you should speak to your recent sex partners so that they can be treated.  Women sometimes never experience symptoms of sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea or Chlamydia, and although not fatal, they can cause infertility if left untreated.

There is no reason to suffer from the pain caused by epididymitis.  If you find yourself experiencing the symptoms, speak to your physician.  A simple prescription will, in most cases, cure the condition within a week.
